Happy New Year! What is your new years resolution? Here at hedwigisnotdead.com, we have resolved to silence the naysayers once and for all! To accomplish this, we’ll need all of your beautiful voices to sing the praises of Hedwig to the world abroad. Let them know the truth! Do not let people give up on our feathery friend! As long as there our true believers, she will never be gone!

Hedwig’s not dead and neither is this blog!

Sorry for the delay! Owlcast #8 got held up in production, mostly due to negotiations with some PR people. But finally, we’ve secured an interview with Melissa Anelli herself! Melissa’s pretty famous in the Harry Potter community for talking a lot about the Harry Potter stuff. In Owlcast #8, she chats with the owl and shares her thoughts on that and much more!

Owlcast #6 in the house!

Our reader Brandon emailed in a photo of his Hedwig jackolantern/owl signal. Yes, much like the famous “bat signal,” Brandon hypothesized that this could be used to summon Hedwig in times of need. Maybe in such a scenario, Hedwig will reveal herself, alive and beautiful.

Does it work? The only way to find out may be to construct one for yourself!

As we revel in this macabre holiday, we should also be sure to give thanks for everything around us that is still living. I’m talking about Hedwig! Heck yes!

A reader from Lawrence, Kansas writes in with some photographs showing a lovely storefront window painted by local grammar school children.

As you can see, these kids have decided to depict a tribute to our fallen heros. Even with the abundance of graves (2nd photo) there is not a Hedwig marker amongst them.

Listen up!  Owlcast #4 is ready for your fragile ears! 

Recently there’s been much speculation concerning the sexuality of our feathered friend.  While we tend to defer to the fanfic writers and their “crazy” imaginations on subjects such as these, we think there is at least a few lines of thought worth exploring.

First, there isn’t just one owl missing after the Great Motorcycle Explosion of ‘97: Pigwidgeon was not mentioned at all in the text of Book 7.  Is it possible that she and Hedwig have abdicated their postal positions for a torrid love affair?   Was this something that their owners knew of?  Was it possible that Harry or Ron disapproved of the fling and sought to keep them apart?  Maybe this is one of the reasons for Hedwig’s disappearance?  Maybe this is why she may have faked her own death

Second, even if Hedwig did succumb to Harry’s confringo or the alleged avada kedavra, it’s entirely possible that her lover (Pigwidgeon or any other owl/phoenix) maybe have ventured into the Forbidden Forrest and happened upon the Resurrection Stone?  If owls are capable of delivering broomsticks, certainly they are capable of turning a stone over in their claws a few times.  Maybe Hedwig was raised from the dead by a lover and they are off gallivanting around the globe on a well deserved honeymoon away from the pressures of the wizarding postal system.

Remember readers: anything is possible in a world where authors drop post-publication bombshells concerning beloved characters.  You just gotta believe!

Big news today, folks. On her press tour, J.K. Rowling reacted to the presence of a stuffed Hedwig by thanking the reader “for bringing the owl back to life.” Sounds like some well placed gratitude, we feel! Yes, we should be acting as though Hedwig is alive and well, thankyouverymuch!
